Windermere Community Mural program
Sponsor: Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House
Youth Representative: Eric
The Community Mural is being created at Windermere Secondary School by up to 1,000 youth in the community over a span of approximately 4 years.
The goals of the project are:
- To involve grade 7 students with grade 8 students to provide an opportunity for mentorship with the purpose of creating an easier transition from elementary to high school; and,
- To have this occur annually for consecutive years and will give the youth a sense of ownership in their community and prepare them to be engaged leaders in the future.
The wall surrounding Windermere School’s tennis wall is the canvas for the Community Mural. Each year a new section will be added and will give an opportunity to reflect diversity and foster community growth. Discussions facilitated by the schools will help the students to develop ideas to inspire the artwork.
The project is supported by the Collingwood Neighbourhood House and the Renfrew Community Centre. Youth groups from each organization are contributing positively to this youth driven opportunity.
