Girls in Motion
Sponsor: Riley Park Community Association
Youth Representative: Donna
The Girls in Motion Project will allow for High School girls to interact with and mentor grade 7 girls to participate in a variety of classes such as salsa dancing, yoga pilates, self defense, and weight training.
The Girls in Motion project will target grade 7 girls from feeder schools that are not already active in their life and have minimal social supports. The mentorship process will ease the transition into highschool by encouraging the development of friendships through a shared experience.
Goals of the project are:
- To support girls who are not involved in sports and other activities due to skills level or cost restrictions;
- To provide attractive programs for girls from the BC housing complex located near Riley Park;
- To provide opportunities for girls from diverse cultures and varying abilities from the community;
- To encourage leadership development; and,
- To build self-esteem, confidence and general outlook on life for youth participants.
