Leave Out Violence Vancouver Publishing Project
Sponsors: Leave Out Violence & Broadway Youth Resource Centre
Youth Representatives: Jessica
Leave Out Violence Vancouver Publishing Project addresses the issue of youth violence along with the common complaint of youth that they do not have a voice. LOVE youth leaders participate in and then conduct a series of workshops covering public speaking, presentation, anger management, role-playing, team building and group facilitation. This will situate youth to use their own experiences, credibility, and skills to de-legitimize violence amongst their peers. Elder youth will then learn the skills to develop, design and publish their own book of writing and photography based on anti-violence, media awareness and youth culture.
The goals of the program are:
- To offer youth a solid foundation to develop strategies for overcoming violence;
- To give youth an opportunity to understand how programs are implemented, funded, and executed to fulfill the project’s mission;
- To encourage youth participation in a dynamic and positive way,
- To provide ongoing opportunities for the LOVE youth to continue working on their photojournalism skills;
- To help youth develop into strong leaders in their communities;
- To provide a voice for youth in documenting youth culture;
- To help show youth that there are positive ways to contribute and have their voice heard.
