Marks My Words is designed to develop the capacity of young musicians and audio artists facing barriers to the music and performance scene in Vancouver . Young musicians will be mentored by older youth from within the Vancouver music scene and receive training in the areas of creative process, live performance techniques, access to the local scene, self-promotion, and recording industry procedures and etiquette. The project culminates with the youth professionally recording a CD, along with a live CD launch/community party.
The goals of the program are:
To give marginalized youth the opportunity to:
- share their music or spoken word with the Vancouver community through a professional recording process and co-production of a live event;
- develop their capacity in terms of knowledge of and access to the local music and recording industry, creative process, live performance technique, and live production/project coordination;
- experience live performance in a supported way, within a team atmosphere and with incremental challenges;
- understand self-promotion and management in the Vancouver and larger music scenes.
