Outside the Box Comedy Events
Sponsor: Kitsilano Community Centre
Youth Representative: Christie
The Outside the Box Comedy Events project will offer a series of comedy events that incorporate improve games for all interested youth ages 12 and up.
The Outside the Box Comedy Events will give youth the opportunity to enhance their creative improv talents and give them a chance to experiment with their inner creative selves. The intent is to create a program that provides a safe place for youth to go and be a part of a creative process with the option of participating.
The goals of the project are:
- To provide programs that are non-restrictive and open to include a wide variety of talents and skills;
- Include youth that are not participating in activities because of language and cultural barriers by bridging the Buddy program for immigrants and the Friday night Outside the Box programs;
- Allow youth to express themselves in unique ways and show youth that music, performing, play, and laughter are universal;
- Provide youth with mentors, leadership skills and knowledge of sustaining the programs; and,
- Assist youth in connecting with other community youth groups and schools.
The new and innovative programs will offer opportunities for youth at risk, immigrant youth, youth that are not physically active, youth from low income families, the community centre, families, and the larger community.
