A Letter from open i

from the folks at "open i"

Nikola and Sharon working together in Open I
Dear open i supporters,

open i has had some good news over the past months that we'd like to pass on to the supporters who made this initiative possible.

First and most importantly, the third open i video is now in its final stages of post-production.  On Sunday, April 23 2006, we held a private screening & celebration for friends and families of the filmmakers on the BIG screen at the Pacific Cinematheque.  Although it was not the 'official' world premiere of the film, it was a great opportunity to see what the program looks like and to meet the filmmakers and celebrate their work in a more intimate setting.

The latest production had some exciting location shoots, such as the pivotal courtroom scene, which the Vancouver Art Gallery allowed us to film in one of the original old courtrooms that are still intact in the building.

In other news, Burnaby Now just published a feature in their entertainment section about the program that's just wrapping up.  Check it out at: http://www.burnabynow.com/issues06/043106/entertainment/042206ae1.html

Also, for those of you who didn't see it, the North Shore News also had a nice article at http://www.nsnews.com/issues05/w120405/122305/pulse/122305pu6.html.

Additional coverage was in the North Shore Outlook, and it was exciting to see that a photo from open i was included in the Arts Now Celebrations Toolkit.

Lastly, Pacific Cinematheque has received its third registration from open i participants for our intensive Summer Visions Film Institute for Youth, with a fourth registration apparently on its way.  We're very pleased that participants from all three open i programs will be represented at Summer Visions, since two of the primary goals of the open i initiative are to make non-segregated media production programs more accessible to youth with disabilities and to facilitate the production and screening of media made by youth and young adults with disabilities.  Unfortunately, quite a few of the open i participants are over 19, which is the upper age limit for participation in Summer Visions.

This summer, we expect two more open i crews to be working on new videos.

Best regards,

Analee
